Hello, my loveliest friends,
I had difficulties to start this post even though I've had everything in my head since A YEAR ago (yes, even before he propose, no kidding), because I didn't know where to start, but then... I think this is the very first thing a couple has to decide when the time comes to prepare a wedding.
To set a combination of colors is indeed important for a wedding as it's gonna set the whole ambiance. Imagine if you want to have a very humble wedding, yet you can find flashy and sparkly colors or vice versa. I am no expert in wedding department, but trust me, once you've decided what's the tone, you can pretty much decide anything. The venue, the decor, the design of all your wedding collateral, the flowers, the suits and the dresses for the whole parties, the color of your wedding bands, even on how your bridal makeup should look (and this is definitely one important factor for me!).
At least that's what we did.
To be honest, it's not too hard for us to pick our wedding tone because I have 98% of the authority to pick which color suit us most. It's sorta easy, actually, my fiance likes anything that is less mainstream and our family pretty much let us decide anything by our own as long as we pick a good color for the mothers' gowns.
So, I had to propose a set of color that I like yet match with everybody's little wishes. How did I do it? What did I consider?
Well, I think it's always goods to start with a timeless color combo. Timeless here means when you look back on your wedding photos in the next 30 or 50 years, that color still stick with you. Three tones should be perfect for a wedding and you can't never go wrong with a cool tone, a warm tone and a metallic.
Here are my inspo:

Here are my inspo:
1. Born with it (sounds like my favorite drugstore brand tagline, Maybelline, I know)
I am one cheesy girl. Imagine me as cheesy as a junior high-school girl in a manga who has high appreciation in jewelry, friendship bracelet, charms, music box, you name it. So that's where inspiration number 1 hit me: my birth stone.
I was born in March, which makes Aquamarine as my birth stone. The good thing about this color inspiration is that it will lasts with me until the end of time as I was born with it. Plus, boys will never go wrong with blue, so the groom, the fathers, the best man, and the brother are pretty much safe (it will even look gorgeous on the maid of honor and the sisters). Not much to do with the current trend, checked.

2. Looks good with it
This is where beauty department jumps in my wedding: I am obsessed with coral makeup. The reason? Because I look best with it. It matches everything from my hair and eye color, my skin tone, pretty much my style. I know, I know that I'm much associated with red lips, but I don't actually wear red lipstick in daily basis. So coral it is. It can be loud, but also very subtle. It brightens the complexion, it freshen up a cloudy day, and the mothers approves as coral gown will make them look 5-10 years younger. A versatile color, checked
3. Extending it down
People, it is as simple as one two three. It's a about extending 1 of your 2 primary colors to something metallic or something shinier (remember, just 1). Extend from your cool tone, it could be silver, gunmetal, or any other cool metallic shade. Same thing goes to your warm tone and people most likely goes with gold. It basically depends on what ambiance you're aiming for.
Me and my fiance personally dreamed of a very warm and intimate wedding. Not too sweet, but intimate is key. Hence, we decided to extend the chosen coral to something golden with an even warmer tone in it like rose gold, my favorite. I was basically a big fan of rose gold as for me rose gold is a perfect shiny version of coral. Inspired by rose gold jewelry (specifically my engagement ring), we have to agree that this color is humble enough for our wedding. In fact, the shabby look on rose gold jewelry gives the most timeless impression out of all shiny colors. Most importantly, in terms of jewelry (in this case the wedding rings), it suits my groom best 'cause he looks dodgy in silver of gold. Everybody's happy, checked.

A summary of our wedding tones.
Overall several moodboards I have compiled on my Pinterest account.
So that's that, peeps, a bit of sharing about what I have in mind even before we got engaged! HAHA. Of course, we are not limited to this three main colors only. There are so many aqua, coral and rose gold shades that we can explore and we surely will have neutral color like creme and wood to complement everything as well.
Hopefully you don't mind this kind of post 'cause I'll be making more. Who knows it could be useful for some brides-to-be out there and don't hesitate to share on how do you set you wedding color/ ambiance. I know the the tone of our wedding is too summery for an Autumn wedding, but then again... It's summer all year round in Indonesia!
Talk to you again soon!
Love,
P
