When in doubt, grab your red lipstick and slab it on.
Whoa, after a super duper long absence from giving out beauty tips, now I decided to came back with a quote? Oh yes, I know the statement sounds a 'lil bit over the top, but I AM a strong believer in red lipstick, what else can I say? Apart from ice cream, a big cup of hot chocolate, the presence of my lovely dog and my man's torso, nothing feels more comforting than wearing bold red lips. I mean, I will imagine myself crumpling at the lowest point of my life, drench in tears for a reason I know not and have no idea about what to do next, but hey! I have a red lipstick laying on my palm!
Ladies, you don't have to ask me twice: I will sit nicely in front of my mirror (give some moment to study my feature furthermore) and let that convincing red bullet color my pout. The dramatic way or lady like, you name it! Just take a deep breath and slow but sure, let the beauty pump a million gallons of confidence and self-esteem through your veins...
That's how much red lipstick affects my life.
OK, I'll stop with the riff raff and jump on straight to the main vocal of this post. My faith on red lipstick might sound enticing and crazy at the same time. For some people, it definitely sounds horrid and scary! Trust me, I've met more than twenty girls saying "eww!" to red bullets. Their reasons?
"Oh, no, no, no no. This is too much for me."
"I look like a crazy clown!"
"Gosh, my mom will disown me. Girl, she didn't raise a slut."
Some of them gone speechless.
*Put on the red lipstick. *Check herself in the mirror. *Petrified. *Looking for a bunch of tissue paper in panic. *Rubbing her lips furiously, leaving hideous red stain around her mouth.
All right, girls, I know I'm not the expert, but trust me: every woman can rock the boldest red lips as long as she stick with her right shade. Come on, what could be more classy and timeless yet edgy at the same time?
Hang on, the right shade? Now things goes complicated.
No worries! This is no rocket-science! So I've gathered some valuable information during my study in the world of makeup (re: beauty blogs, YouTube videos and any cosmetic counters exists in the market), that each of us has different skin undertones. Yes, there are girls out there who looks good with true white outfit because they are the cool ones, the others will go for off-white or even ivory because they are the warm ones.
Same thing goes to red lipstick.
Key no. 1: to find your right shade, you have to understand your skin undertone.
Basically, there are three undertone you might wanna know: COOL, WARM and NEUTRAL. There's a huge possibility that somebody has a cool to neutral undertone or warm to neutral undertone, people with something in between. However, as a guideline, you only need to remember the main three.
So which undertone are you?
You are the COOL ones:
You are the WARM ones:
Now for the NEUTRAL ones:
I spent weeks to find my undertone and turns out that I have more yellow tone rather than pink. I can't tell the color of my veins, my skin looks healthier and glowing with off-white or ivory outfit, I'll turn darker after I spent a day under the sun, I collect more peachy blush rather than pink, yet blue and rose gold is my favorite color! I have neutral to warm undertone.

You are the COOL ones:
- Look at your wrist and find your veins. If you find a bluish or purplish tinge, you are cool
- Go through your jewelry collection. If you see a lot of silver shine and your skin looks glowing with them on, you are cool. Same thing goes to white outfit. If you are cool, your skin will look brighter when you wear true white clothing
- Spend your time under the sun, if you tend to burn and end up looking like a crab at the end of the day, you are cool ;P
You are the WARM ones:
- Again, examine your wrist. If you find a greenish or olive tinge, you are warm
- Jewelry collection. You spotted a lot of golden shine and your skin looks healthy with them on, you are warm. Also give your white outfit a try. If you are warm, your skin won't look dull with off-white or ivory clothing
- Now the sun-burn test. You easily got sun-kissed tan? Lucky you, you are the warm ones!
Now for the NEUTRAL ones:
- You'll hate the wrist test if you are neutral because it's so hard to find out what color that shows up. You just can't tell!
- You'll look OK with silver jewelry, but yet the golden doesn't look harsh on your skin as well. Hang on a sec, you are also attracted to rose gold goodies? You are a neutral!
- You tan slowly. It means when the sun hits you, you'll burn slightly reddish. However, at the end of the day, you'll look darker and a bit brown

Key no. 2: finding the right shade of your red lipstick.
For the purpose of this post, I will use 3 different lipsticks from the same brand, Revlon. Firstly, because they are the first three red lipstick that I've ever purchased in my life (look at those battle-worn packaging) and secondly, because buying high-end brand could be risky when you are in doubt. I believe you don't want to spend a lot of money on a product that fail you, right?
Quick tip: give the drugstore goodies a try until you find your right shade before moving on to the high-end lines.

Here are the swatches, from left to right, 2 swipes each: 660 Bed of Roses, 525 Wine With Everything and 655 Scarlet Velvet. Now, let's examine them one by one:
660 Bed of Roses: I can clearly see a bluish hue on the first lipstick, it will look good with someone with pinkish undertone.
525 Wine With Everything: the second swatch is my very first purchase and I feel OK with it.
655 Scarlet Velvet: I know the last one looks so bright, yet the color pay off is amazing, a bit orange and has no bluish hue in it.
So the last shade definitely compliments my skin best so I'll stick with neutral and warm shade of red. I challenge you to find your right red lipstick!

Whew, that was a long post!
Sorry for the essay, everyone, and huge thanks to anyone who has came to visit and read through the end. My point is simple: don't be afraid to try something challenging because no woman will look ugly in red lipstick when they stick to their perfect shade. In fact, red lipstick will instantly enhance your beauty. It is indeed a high-maintenance beauty regime, so you want to make sure to apply a generous amount, create a sharp edge using lip liner and concealer then dedicate your time to check back from time to time.
My quick tips for awesome bold red lipstick: don't forget to blot after each application on a piece of tissue paper, stick to a matte finish lipstick for a more subtle look and go minimum with your eye makeup. Even though you've find the best red lipstick for you skin tone, but if you have too much things going on your face... Oh, the agony :D
So good luck in finding your perfect shade of red pout, ladies! Remember, when in doubt, grab your red lipstick and slab it on!
Love,
P
