I wear makeup every single day.
The reason? Well, I enjoy it, makeup can definitely make my day, and I have imperfections. Oh, yes, imperfections like acne, scars, under eye dark circles and you know what? It's that time of the month again when they're allowed to show up angrily on my skin. I'm breaking out!
I've been on the look for a set of great skincare that will work for my problem. Just a quick reminder: I have acne problem on my forehead for years now (scarring, hyper pigmentation, dry patches, etc), oily T-zone, and I definitely have dehydrated skin. Still grateful that I have small pores, though :D
Bottom line, I'm loving my current night time skincare regimen: firstly, they're actually not bad; secondly, most of them are affordable; lastly, nothing feels better than a clean and supple face after layering it with makeup for the whole day.
Disclaimer: some people might love the products listed below, some people might not. I'm basically just sharing what I'm using at the moment in order and also how do I use them. So far, they're working for me.
1. The Body Shop Camomile Sumptous Cleansing Butter
I found it easy to remove my makeup (though some people can't believe it because I can use literally more than 15 makeup items every morning), but I hate removing my mascara. I don't wear eyeliner on daily basis, so mascara is literally the hardest to remove, especially when I determine not to tug my eyes. I used to take common eye & lips makeup remover (you know, the one that you need to shake up to mix those 2 different substance together?) because they are so easy to use and do the job at the same time. Unfortunately, I don't want to lose more lashes and add fine lines every time I remove my eye makeup.
When The Body Shop have this baby butter in stock, I automatically gravitated towards it but yet I resist myself because I still have my cleansing oil to finish. Too bad, I can't stand the way my cleansing oil stings my eyeball and now I sorta growing on this cleansing butter. It does not sting and it works damn well.
How do I use it: I warm up the butter with my fingers to take generous amount and gently massage the product onto my eyelids. I use slow downward stroke to separate my lashes with my mascara. Once it dissolve, I'll wipe it away with a piece of tissue paper.
2. Biore Cleansing Oil
This is the one who sting my eyes! Not too much, but it hurts :( I love how good it cleanse my skin, though, it removes most waterproof makeup, gentle on the skin and smells like fresh green apple, hence I cannot let it go (definitely will repurchase this once I'm done, as a matter of fact). I use it to dissolve my face makeup, get rid off my water resistant concealer and stuff.
How do I use it: having a pump is a good thing, yet I mostly use two. After I warm it up in between my palm, I started to massage my forehead, nose, cheeks, chin, and also neck to dissolve everything I have on. Wipe the residue away with a piece of tissue paper.
3. Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser
Cetaphil is one interesting brand for me and I definitely gotta try their cleanser. I sorta had a love and hate relationship with this particular product because I used to use it without cleaning my makeup with oil first, hence I found it useless.
I'm now loving it! Not only it cleanse away any butter and oil residue, it also leaves my skin supple and cool after I wipe it off.
How do I use it: more like the same with my cleansing oil. Two pumps and rub it onto my face then wipe it clean.
4. Nivea Aqua Effect Refreshing Toner
This product is definitely one of my holy grail skincare. It doesn't do anything big, but I love this toner. It's hydrating, cool, gentle on the skin, and the scent is nostalgic (my mom used this particular product when I was a little girl, remind me of her night-time scent back then). I like the way it hydrates my skin and clears away any residue.
How do I use it: just like the way other people use toner. On a cotton pad, swipe it all over your face with upward strokes.
Do you know?
My mom once told me that using toner on daily basis can minimize your pores, so it's definitely an important step.
5. The Body Shop Tea Tree Squeaky-Clean Scrub
This is the only product in my current skincare routine that I don't use in daily basis, yet I love it all the same. It is indeed leaving my face squeaky-clean and does not dry it whatsoever. And as you might've guessed, I'm a little bit obsessed with The Body Shop Tea Tree range.
No, I lied. I put so much believe into them.
How do I use it: twice to three times a week. I dot it on my forehead, cheeks, nose, and chin then start to rub everything gently.
6. Garnier Pure Active Energizing Facial Foam
I found that washing my face with facial foam at night a bit dilemmatic. You know, my face should be clean now after those things listed above, but it feels so wrong if I don't do this step. It's soap, it will definitely cleanse anything away, so I got to do this if I want to avoid breakout.
I don't have any particular holygrail facial foam, most things from the drugstore works fine on me, but I'm loving this Garnier Pure Active Energizing facial foam. It has grapefruit and pomegranates extract in it and I imagine those two will definitely energize my dull skin (I'm whore for marketing gimmicks, I know I'm hopeless) plus you can't go wrong with vitamin C. It is also suitable for acne prone skin and it is indeed mild enough for my forehead area (see, the area I tend to breakout the most).
How do I use it: just like the way you use your facial foam. Lather it on an rinse it away (I love the feel of cool water on my skin).
7. The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Toner
If you've had enough of cleaning, I'm not done yet, but I promise this is the last cleaning step I take every night. Yes, I do toner twice, I just can't help it. It's tea tree toner from The Body Shop, how can I resist it? Trust me, after all cleansing above, I still can find leftover foundation or mascara stain on my cotton pad whenever I do this step. It is not only do the final cleansing touch, I feel it does nurse any open acne scar to health.
How do I use it: gotta give it a good shake to mix the liquid with the powder inside (the powder actually mattifies your skin, so it is a good choice for morning skincare toner as well), then do the same as the toner step above.
8. Kiehl's Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado
When you say you won't need eye cream in such a young age, you are so wrong, girls. Whether you wear eye makeup in daily basis or not, you will need an eye cream from now on or regret later. Nothing instant about skincare. I've used the Vitamin E range from The Body Shop and a good one from RoC, but I'm currently loving the famous avocado eye cream from Kiehl's. So many people swear by it and I gotta agree it is super moisturizing. There's no anti-aging formula in it I believe, however moisturized eye area means no dry patches and it will definitely minimize appearance of fine lines.
How do I use it: as you might've guessed, I use my ring finger as it is the weakest finger which is suitable for the delicate eye area. I dab the cream gently, blend it while give my eye area a nice little massage and let it dry a bit before moving on to the next step.
9. The Body Shop Natruganics Drops of Youth
Again, I've been gravitated towards this product since it first launch, yet I just bought this recently. Firstly, I love any skincare product with a dropper (or pipette, another marketing gimmicks victim), but it's rather expensive for a drugstore brand. When I heard so many good reviews about it and my skin is finally screaming for something serious, I decided to grab my purse and pay for a miracle.
It actually does what it says, though I definitely still need some time to say this is a magic in a bottle. Yeap, it leaves my skin supple, brighter, and smoother from my very first use, yet it does not significantly repair any damage on my face. Anyone interested for a full review?
How do I use it: two drops is more than enough to cover your entire face. I like the way my skin drink the potion, so make sure you don't rub it off your face. Swipe the liquid lightly with your fingertips, you'll love the cooling sensation it gives.
10. The Body Shop Tea Tree Blemish Fade Night Lotion
Now this is a miracle potion. I know my annoying acne scars are back at the moment, but they did disappear for some time last year just because I used this product every day. It taught me a good lesson that night lotion is a crucial step in nightime skincare routine. I'm probably on my fifth or sixth bottle right now and it does kick any dark spots, hyper pigmentation, and acne scars off with regular use.
How do I use it: I focus on my forehead area because that's where my blemishes are, but you can definitely use on your entire face for clearer looking skin.
11. The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil
I promise, I'm almost done. Again, another tea tree range from The Body Shop. I love this oil as it does dry my acne quickly and it's natural enough for troubled skin. It stings a little bit, but it worth the pain (no, it's actually not that painful).
How do I use it: a little goes a long way. I love using my fingertips though it's as liquidy as any oils. Just dab a bit on those angry spots and it will dry your acne the next day you open your eyes.
12. Lucas Papaw Ointment
And the last but of course not the least, I gotta have lip balm on my nightime skincare routine. You see, I have quite big and full lips, hence chapped and dry pout is the last I wanna see. I was a bit skeptic when my cousin raved about this product years ago, but today, hands down, this is the best lip balm I've ever used. The scent reminds me of cream cheese and it is super lightweight and shiny. It actually can cure any minor skin problem such as boils, burns, cuts, splinters, or even insect bites, but I mainly use it as a lip balm. Unfortunately, it is so hard to get this product at Indonesia :(
How do I use it: come on, just the normal way. Squirt it a bit on my fingertips and massage the product onto my lips. Simple yet important step for that kissable pout.
Another long post! My bad habit, I know ;P
And that's what I've been using and loving at the moment, guys. I used to be someone ignorant about skincare because I think it's a waste of time to go through so many products after a long day. Trust me, though, nowadays I can't go to bed without doing this regimen as it is so relaxing and also good for your skin.
Just sharing, but I hope this information could be useful for you. I might do individual review on several products listed above, so don't forget to come back!
Love,
P
