Hi, everyone,
Nope. This is not a "movie review" post, don't worry.
As you guys might probably have guessed, yep, I love musical. I just cannot describe how I'm into theatrical performance, though I've never played one yet (I really wish I will have the chance one day ;P).
Anyway, in this post, I would like to talk about the beauty of Broadway female characters. I think they are amazing so let's jump on to the content!

So, yeah, I think you've known why Les Misérables comes first: it's fresh from the oven. Who haven't watch it? Let me be honest with you first: I cried, cried, cried, cried on this movie. Absolutely touching! One character I love the most is Fantine. She's just phenomenal. Yes, Anne Hathaway played her role incredibly amazing, but speaking about Fantine's beauty, gosh, she has it all.
Above scene is actually Fantine's moment to shine. If you've watched the movie, you'll know what I mean (sorry, guys, not gonna talk a lot about the story line as this is not a movie review :D). "I Dreamed a Dream" is absolutely my favorite song of the musical as this is where we can see beauty forcefully taken away from someone so young and lovely, but you can still feel the sparks of adorableness on her, referring back to what she did for the sake of her daughter.
Fantine was portrait as an effortlessly beautiful and naive girl who was abandoned to take care of Cosette, her daughter, alone by the girl's father. While Cosette is growing up, Fantine has to ask the Thénardiers to take care of her daughter as she has to work at Monsieur Madeleine's (a.k.a. Jean Valjean) as one of his factory worker.
When the factory supervisor found out that Fantine is an unwed mother, she got fired and forced to do prostitution to get some money for her daughter living cost. Desperate, she sold her hair as well and has her teeth removed beforehand.

Her new job forced her to completely change her appearance: harsh makeup, inappropriate clothes, filthy-looking and unkempt. I think Fantine's beauty is clear: her sacrifice. She threw away her dignity, her suffering makes her lovable. As we all know, beauty is varied, and Fantine did all this for the happiness of her daughter until her death do them apart.
I truly adore how Fantine's character portrayed. Who doesn't?
Love,
P
