I think I'm falling head over heels with red lips.
This look is as easy as the "barely-there" look, though you have to give a little special attention when it comes to your lips.
For me red lips are very classic, elegant, yet sexy, and it always reminds me of France. Chic women, Can Can girls, their flawless skin... Anyway, though some ladies are not confident enough to support bright red lips (or even any other kind of red on their lips), I insist to write a tutorial for this look: à la French.
Don't forget to put your lip balm on before you start, bella ;D and lemme have your attention, please...
1. Do the routine. Always cleanse, tone, and moist. Starting with a clean and healthy face is super essential.
Quick tips: I personally think that skincare doesn't have to be expensive. You can use any cleanser, toner, and moisturizer that are friendly with your skin type.
2. I always prefer a dewy finish on my face, thus I mostly uses my mousse foundation for my version of French look. Dewy finish gives your face the impression of healthy skin.
Next, you can cover your blemishes, dark spots, or even scars with your favorite concealer. Lucky if you don't have any flaws on your face, just rely on your foundation for the sake of evening out your skin tone. Remember, less is more.
Also, don't forget to powder to finish. Translucent powder is, again, a must for this look.
3. Moving on to step 3, define your brows. Basically, any kind of French look is about going natural. However, to balance your red lips later on, you can intensify the fill in process (intensify, it means you don't want to have 2 caterpillars around your forehead :D). Yes, thicker eyebrows is trending now, and they will make you look younger as well.
4. This step is optional. You can line your eyes (make it barely visible, though, using brown eyeliner would be a great option), going a bit smoky by playing around with your neutral color eye shadows (like taupe, champagne, brownish), or skip to your lashes.
5. It's curling time! Get your lashes ready for mascara (grab a volumizing one) and wiggle your wand again on the top and the bottom, once or twice will do.
As you can see, I put a pair of demi lashes, each around the outer corner of my eyes and these are acceptable if you have thin lashes like mine. Avoid to have full sets of false lashes as they're not really natural.
6. I think to dust your cheeks with peachy blush is important for this look, as you want to look quite lively. You can also combine your blush with highlighter and bronzer, but don't overdo it.
7. And finally, lip coloring! I am really excited for this step.
Wearing red lipstick is quite tricky, but it's not difficult. Here are some steps:
- Re-apply your lip balm, don't put to much, just make sure your lips are moist (it is a must).
- Have a lip liner ready (you can use nude or red lip liner, I prefer nude) and line your lips neatly. Fill your lips with the lip pencil as well, it will act as the base and make your lipstick stay on longer.
- I like to apply my lipstick directly rather than using brush. You want your lips to look luscious for this look, so apply your lipstick evenly within the line and make sure to fill all gap. If you have difficulties on this step, your brush would be very happy to assist you coloring. Using brush will make your lip color last longer as well.
Quick tips: you can smudge a little bit of highlighter on your cupid's bow for the finishing touch.
Finally, dab your lips slightly on a piece of tissue paper to set everything in place.
I love bright red lip color with creamy texture for my French look, but you can pick any kind of red that suits you best. Matte, or bitten, or stained, or a bit orange perhaps... All right, I think I'm gonna do a tutorial about red lips coloring as well :D
And we are finished! I love this look for night outs.
So, will you support red lips from now on? I promise I will do a tutorial to make your red lips wearable.
Good luck!
Love,
P
